of the 50s, 60s and beyond....

Roy Clarkk

Roy Clark ? Isn’t he a country singer with songs like "The Tips of My Fingers","Yesterday When I Was Young" and "Thank God and Greyhound"? What has he got to do in my collection of instrumentals ?

Well, Roy made hits in the country charts in the '60s and '70s and soon became one of country's biggest stars. And he also was awarded as an instrumentalist ! . The songs he did with the guitar are simply spectacular. I NEVER understood why he later turned mainly to singing  - with such a gift to play the guitar..

His three Albums :

“The Lightning Fingers O Roy Clark”, “The Roy Clark Guitar Spectacular” and “Stringing Along With The Blues” are a real treasure. My “TOP  10 “ will show you his artistry .

Dear Roy ! Why did you stop creating such a fantastic music ? You could have had fans all over the world - topping other instrumentalists.

HOLD IT - My absolut favorite number by Roy Clark.Wait till the organ finishes its part - then the guitar will take over - great.

RACING THE MULE - He was called: “The World Fastest Guitar Player” - with due cause ! He plays that song so fast that it almost wrecks your nerves just to listen to it...

FINGER LICKIN’ - Similar to HOLD IT . Powerful! .

BLUES STAY AWAY FROM ME - That’s what I call a powerful blues - you just have to increase your amplifier’s volume..

DENTED FENDER Sounds somewhat familiar - could have been part of a rock festival with his driving guitar sound.

OVERDUE BLUES,PART VII  - One of his masterpieces - the blues flows out of him..

PINK VELVET SWING  - Nice for dancing - I love those short solos inbetween.

9

JUST A CLOSER WALK WITH THEE  - A traditional song elevated to an instrumental at its best. Can you imagine  Roy Clark and Mark Knopfler getting together and doing something like this ?...

WILDWOOD FLOWER  - Duane Eddy does that one, too. Different approach - here in the good old Twist tradition.

10

TURKEY IN THE STRAW   Another traditional song - in a never ending flow of guitar drops - just to make you happy..

Roy Clark continues to tour the globe as well as perform regularly at his own theater in Branson, MO.
