The Spotnicks

The SPOTNICKS - a Swedish group not so well known in the USA - but in Europe they have had an enormous fan audience - and still have today. Thanks to the internet you  rapidly find out that they are still playing and touring !

One can find an impressive list of LINKS- almost more than for our other instrumentalists you find on this site.

What is so special about THE  SPOTNICKS - that distinguishes them from other groups ?

I remember a band in Germany in 1964 - playing their number MOONSHOT - my favorite. Then  - and still today - their unique “space”-sound did it. The full-bodied - yet a somehow aloft - sound combined with a meticulous fingerwork has its merits which differentiates them from e.g. THE VENTURES or even THE SHADOWS.

Moonshot-My all-time favorite. Just cleverly arranged; tune mainly played with chords - this song has the characteristic “loftiness” THE SPOTNICKS are famous for.

Orange Blossom Special - Who does not know the song sang by Johnny Cash ? But this one is the best ! Incredible fast, clean guitar work combined with the “space-sound” - a musical gem - a real classic..

Amapola -  Well, they must have gotten tired of playing it over and over again, but the samba rhythm combined with with their sound makes it just a great tune to be heard all the time.

For A Few Dollars More - Even the short clip gives you an idea that they added spice to this well known movie song - with almost a soul-rythm and unexpected variations of the the tune. A surprise.

Ghostriders - Well, with so many versions of this classic this renders its own, particular flair. A asset to any collection.
