The well known advantages of Fuzzy modules like the so called “fuzziness”, which comes close to human intuition, are only usable, if they are made available to the operator of the boiler! Fuzzy modules, too, need to be adjusted to the individual combustion process. An “auto-optimization” is not possible. The integration of a complementary, that is a separately ON/OFF switchable PC-Fuzzy-Solution has shown to be feasable. The success of a possible decision to use only a few Fuzzy modules (so called Hybrid-solution) depends to a great extend on the possibility to optimize them, i.e. to provide an easy operability. The choice for a PC complete solution, in which the existing DCS firing rate control is bypassed, is appealing and should seriously be examined.       If the width of the steam fluctuation is narrowed down, the steam setpoint can be increased  - and at the same time the performance of the plant. .     Alternative: use of Fuzzy modules
